Private Guided Injection Scans

How it works

  1. 01 Book a Spinal Consultation

Before having an injection procedure, you'll need to book a spinal specialist consultation to discuss your symptoms and assess your suitability for a guided injection.

  2. 02 Consultation Confirmation

We'll refer your consultation request to our guided injection partners, who will contact you to arrange a time and date to suit you.

  3. 03 Have your consultation

You'll visit your selected location, and the spinal specialist will explain your options and the types of injection you're eligible for, and highlight the benefits and risks. If you opt for multiple treatment areas, a surcharge payment will need to be made on-site.

  4. 04 Receive your treatment

Most of our patients receive their guided injection on the same day as their consultation. The injection may be accompanied by a scan to position the needle.

What are the different types of guided injection?

A guided injection is a minimally invasive procedure where medicine is injected into the spinal area to relieve back pain. Imaging such as ultrasound or X-ray is used to position the needle tip with pinpoint accuracy, and many patients benefit from immediate pain relief.

Facet Joint

These injections go into the joints around the spine and contain a local anaesthetic to provide pain relief and a steroid to reduce inflammation in the area. Facet joints act to stabilise your spine and help control movement by linking the bones (vertebrae).

Epidurals

Epidurals are injections administered to the outer layer of the spine to help with pain. A spinal specialist uses X-rays to guide them as they inject a local anaesthetic, along with a steroid medication to ease inflammation and reduce swelling, suitable for chronic back problems like arthritis or sports injuries.

Nerve block

This involves injecting directly around the root of the nerve that is causing the pain to block the pain signals. Nerve-blocking injections target a specific nerve and 'block' the transmission of pain signals that travel from where the pain starts to the brain.

Medication Types

We offer a range of medications to suit your needs. Epidural steroids are also known as corticosteroid injections, and treat radiating pain and inflammatory pain, while hyaluronic acid can lubricate joints to reduce pain and improve mobility.

How is a guided injection performed?

You'll visit your selected clinic, where you may be asked to remove some clothing or wear a gown to allow access to your spine. You'll lie down and the area to be injected will be cleaned and numbed. The consultant will then use imaging technology to guide a fine needle into the correct location and inject the medicine, which could be hylaronic acid, a corticosteroid injection, or local anaesthetic. The procedure should only take about 5-10 minutes.

What are the benefits and risks of guided injections?

Guided injections can relieve pain and are considered conservative treatments, with only minimal rest required afterwards. In rare cases a patient may experience side effects such as hot flashes, flushed skin on the face and chest, bleeding, or headache, which should pass in 1-2 days. If you experience an allergic reaction or have any concerns, contact your doctor right away.
